About Syros

Syros is the largest of the Cylclades by the population (~20.000 people). Completely different by architecture style from Mykonos it features pastel colours, wider streets and tasteful cuisine.

Our trip

Port station

We visited Syros because it was the only way to sail all the way to the island of Naxos. As we had 5 hours between the ferries to spare, it was a wonderful opportunity to explore the city. We did a little bit of research prior reaching the port in Syros, so we knew that there were lockers available in the Port station.

Since the port is located on the eastern side of the island, a sunset is invisible from there. However, evening sky can produce gorgeous pastel colours, shining a different light onto the town.

If you wanted to jump into water and swim to refresh yourself, we have to disappoint you – there are no beaches anywhere near the city and the port. If you wanted to do so, you would need to expand your stay on the island for a day or two.

What we ate

As the hour-and-a-half long ferry made us hungry, we chose a pair of tasty gyros in a street food station Ta Giannena. That gave us energy for wandering along the streets (note: they are mountainous!)

Time passing towards evening, we decided to check the famous pizza from Italian restaurant Solo Grano. What a tasty pizza! As a surprise, we even got a free dessert at the end! Should you be hungry, make sure not to miss this place!
